Virginia Dante Perry, Attorney

Divorce stinks. I know, because I grew up in Richmond, Virginia as a child of divorce in a single-parent household. Who knows? Maybe growing up in that environment led me to want to help legally represent those going through divorce, custody, and various other family law cases. Before that, however, I went to college pursuing a degree in English at James Madison University, where I also studied education and drama. Believe it or not, I wanted to become a medical doctor before anything. After being elected to membership in Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities during my time at James Madison University, I finally graduated with high honors and a degree in English. Although qualified to teach high school English and dramatic arts, I had an epiphany and realized I did not want to spend my lifetime teaching high school students — although the summers off would have been a bonus! Instead, I elected to continue my education at the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary. After passing the Virginia Bar Exam during my last year of law school, I received my law degree in May of 1977, whereupon I immediately began the private practice of law.

You could say that I like to stay busy. In addition to my private practice, over the years I have served as a part-time Assistant Public Defender of the City of Petersburg, as a guardian ad litem for children, and as an Administrative Hearing Officer for the Commonwealth of Virginia. I have been on the Board of Directors of Southside Legal Services as well as the Christian Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Richmond. I am a member of the local bar association, the Virginia State bar section of Family Law. I have a reputation for being a “straight shooter.” I believe this is a good thing in law. I represent my clients with honesty and integrity through my “no-nonsense” approach.

In choosing Perry Law Group, not only are you getting an experienced lawyer, but you are also getting an author! I have written many published articles, brochures, and pamphlets on family law and the legality and hardships of divorce and separation. I have also written a book titled, “What You Need to Know Before Filing VA Divorce.”

I am married to Attorney Bill Bray and am active in the local community. I am the proud mother of a daughter who is also a lawyer! I served as a mentor for high school and college students looking to start a career in law. Over the years, I have also participated in various charitable enterprises, including outreach to the poor and disadvantaged in the area.
